Lebanon Support and Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Beirut Office, in partnership with the Sociology Café invite you to the 2nd round table in its Socio-Economic Rights in Lebanon: Reflection & Action series:
Fault lines of the workers’ movement
This talk hinges on the centrality of the labour movement in the political and economic struggle for change despite structural changes in the global economy hampering the activity and scope of associational power. The talk examines the overall labour movement transformations in Lebanon and underlines the central impediments to its development. In this context of a tamed workers’ movement, the talk also presents a critical empirical application of the Multiple Streams Framework, as one of the most frequently used theories in the “western canon”, to a recent case of wage policymaking in Lebanon showing how and why the “issue logic” of the wage hike policy problem in Lebanon is in fact trumped by a “regime logic” which in turn limits the impact of both contentious and transgressive contestations.
With discussants:
The Talk will be held in Arabic.
Date: Thursday, 29th of March, from 6 to 8pm
Location: Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung’s office , 6th floor, ar-Rahal bldg, Benoit Barakat Street, Badaro, Beirut, follow this link for the map
