Our centre is pleased to announce that the Civil Society Review issue 5 “Challenging Power: Gender and Social Justice in the Middle East” is now published and available in open access! 

Edited by Gabriella Nassif, this issue brings together authors whose work insightfully highlights many of the current trends within feminist mobilising in the SWANA region. It includes articles, interviews, and personal reflections that revolves around three main thematics: Negotiating with the State, The NGO-ization of Women’s Movements, and the relationship between gender, sex, and sexuality in relation to the growing influence of internatioonal donors and the NGO-ization of women’s rights and gender equality across the SWANA region.

These articles and reflections also assess the current moment of crisis in the region through the lens of gender.
